Governor What is Your Plan?
October 20, 2013

Sadly it does not appear that Governor Shumlin understands the concept of a deadline. While we both share the goal of affordable health care for all Vermonters, Governor Shumlin and Vermont alone have mandated that approximately 100,000 Vermonters have to sign up for Obamacare Exchanges/Vermont Health Connect by Jan 1 or be without health care insurance. The deadline for opening VHC (Vermont Health Connect) was Oct 1st the State has failed miserably to meet that deadline and VHC has failed to be an effective tool for Vermonters despite spending $95 million to develop this IT system. Then Governor Shumlin said Nov 1st would be the date...

The Wonderful Wizard of Health Care Software

In that timeless classic, the Wizard of Oz, hapless young Dorothy from Kansas is swept away in a tornado, lands in the mythical kingdom of Oz, and seeks help from its all-powerful and all-knowing ruler, the Wizard. But once she finds the Wizard, she finds that despite all the smoke and mirrors, behind the curtain he is just a little old con-artist, who has no magical powers at all.

That parable also describes what’s happening to modern day Dorothy. But she is from Vermont, not...

“There has been a lot of moralizing in this debate about medical financing.  Although there is a moral dimension to my position, the main reason I am opposed to single payer financing is clinically pragmatic: it doesn't work, and it harms patients.  My moral reasons for practicing the way I do are a matter of my ideas about my personal responsibilities to my family and my patients.  My opposition to single payer medical financing is designed precisely so that I won't impose my personal moral values on people who disagree with me, and I hope to get the same consideration in return from my neighbors in Vermont: please let me practice as I see fit, let my patients judge the value of my work, and let me keep the money I have earned so I can meet my responsibilities to my family and fulfill my personal aspirations.”
