Melida Akiti: Leading Women 2025

Akiti is making positive changes at Broward Health, a five-hospital public health system headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In six months, her efforts to boost access increased the number of primary care patients seen by 36%. She also assembled a maternal health committee comprising obstetricians, emergency department physicians and local nonprofit leaders to address hypertensive disorders. The program provides support and care up to 12 months postpartum. Under her leadership, Broward Health will next deploy mobile care units throughout the county over two years, with the goal of helping to remove transportation barriers.
